INSPIRATION: The Theater

I watched the Tony Awards a couple of weeks ago and it was an absolute treat. Of course I missed the beginning half of it due to the NBA finals, which supposedly was ‘the greatest game ever’ and I was the only girl in the house at the time so I was forced to sit through it. Nonetheless I still got to watch the Tony Awards. It was absolutely inspirational. I’ve always had an interest in theater, not as a performer but as a spectator and lover of the arts. The costumes and the sets draw me in more then anything. The awards had a little taste of every broadway show playing that season and I hadn’t realized how much of a fashion history lesson these shows were. Anything Goes was my favorite. The play takes place on an ocean liner bound from New York to London. And the actors and actresses in classic prep and nautical looks. Nothing beats that.
But I recently stumbled upon these videos on youtube of the french musical Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (The Young Girls of Rochefort) and these videos have been playing on repeat all morning long. The costumes are to die for. A world full of baby pink pastel colored sequined dresses and the men in beige trousers and shorts and demure monochromatic shirts and ties, ALL WHILE THEY BURT OUT IN SONG. IN FRENCH NO LESS! GAH ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!
I’m currently on a quest to search for this film. I haven’t even seen it yet and I’m already obsessed. I think I just might order it on amazon right this second.

Have a great fathers day everyone.
cheers!
